Approving a saw blade sample answers whether that sample worked in a recorded application. It does not, by itself, define what the supplier must reproduce six months later. Batch consistency starts by turning the sample approval into a specification, an inspection record and a process for handling changes. The following is a proposed purchasing workflow, not a claim that every supplier follows the same production controls.
Create an approved reference package
Retain the drawing revision, sample identification, dimensional measurements and production trial results together. Include diameter, bore and other mounting features, tooth count and geometry, kerf and body thickness, agreed material description, coating and marking. Where a characteristic matters but the buyer cannot readily measure it, agree on the supplier evidence required instead of leaving it implied.
A physical reference sample is helpful but insufficient. It may wear, corrode or be resharpened. Mark its reference status and retain dated photographs and measurements. If it has been used, record that condition; do not compare a new blade directly against the dimensions of a resharpened reference without accounting for the change.
Put change control on the purchase order
List which changes require notice and renewed approval. Examples include a different tooth material, revised geometry, coating substitution, altered mounting dimensions or a changed manufacturing route affecting the agreed characteristics. Cosmetic packaging changes and performance-critical changes need different review levels. Agree those levels with the supplier before production.

Distinguish incoming inspection from production trials
Incoming inspection can identify obvious damage, marking errors and measured dimensional differences. It cannot establish full tool life from appearance. Use a separate application trial for performance and compare with the same acceptance definition used at sample approval. Record the machine, material and operating conditions because changes in the customer’s process can mimic a batch problem.
Define the lot and sampling method before inspection. The number of tools inspected should reflect the order, variation, defect consequences and agreed sampling plan. Avoid inventing a universal sample size or treating a few successful checks as proof that every blade conforms. Safety-critical issues need appropriate containment and technical review.
Handle a deviation without losing the evidence
Identify and hold the affected stock while buyer and supplier determine the scope. Preserve carton labels, blade IDs, photographs and measurements. Compare the questionable batch with the reference package and any retained samples. If a process adjustment is proposed, record who approved it and repeat the relevant acceptance test before releasing stock for production.
Use repeat orders to improve the record
Track accepted cuts or another agreed output metric, rejection reasons and recurring inspection findings by lot. A trend across several deliveries is more informative than an isolated complaint. Keep the test definition stable; if it changes, start a new comparison series. Supplier consistency and customer process consistency must both be visible in the record.
