A saw blade can arrive in good condition and still become unsuitable for sale after poor storage or handling. Distributors need to protect sharp edges, prevent moisture exposure and preserve lot identification. Treat storage as part of product quality: a clean box alone does not prove that the blade inside is undamaged. The checklist below is a proposed stock-control procedure; packaging materials and maintenance products must be compatible with the actual blade.
Inspect the shipment before putting it away
Record delivery date, carton condition and lot references. Photograph punctures, crushed corners, wet packaging or displaced contents before repacking. Check a defined selection of packages according to your agreed receiving plan. Separate affected stock while its condition is reviewed, and retain the original labels so a problem can be traced to a shipment or lot.
Protect the teeth and blade body
Use purpose-designed sleeves, separators or racks that prevent exposed teeth from contacting other blades or hard surfaces. Support the blade without imposing bending loads. Do not pile loose blades under heavy stock or use the teeth as support points. Keep the approved protective packaging with tools that will be dispatched individually.
Choose a storage system suited to the blade dimensions and weight. There is no single orientation that makes an unsuitable rack safe. Handle cutting edges with appropriate protection under the workplace procedure, and keep handling protection separate from the precautions required around rotating machinery.
Manage moisture and condensation
Store tools in a clean, dry area away from leaks, floor moisture and corrosive contamination. Temperature changes can introduce condensation, so receiving and unpacking procedures should reflect the route and local environment. Do not seal a damp blade into a replacement package. Investigate moisture exposure before returning it to saleable stock.
If desiccants, barrier bags or corrosion-inhibiting materials are used, follow the packaging supplier’s design and renewal guidance. Their effectiveness depends on the package and environment. A packet of desiccant is not a universal storage-life guarantee. Likewise, apply only cleaning or preservation products approved for the blade, coating and intended use, with any required removal before mounting.

Inspect older stock before dispatch
Use stock rotation to reduce unnecessary time in storage, but do not assume the oldest unopened package is automatically acceptable. Review condition at intervals suited to the warehouse and packaging. Look for corrosion, edge damage, body distortion and unreadable markings. A suspicious blade should be assessed by a competent service provider rather than polished and sold without review.
Separate storage damage from manufacturing complaints
Preserve receiving photographs and inspection dates. They help distinguish a problem observed on arrival from one first found after repacking or storage. Do not remove corrosion or grind an edge before documenting it if a technical investigation is needed. Retain the affected lot reference and enough packaging evidence to reconstruct handling.
